How to Slow Down & Appreciate Summer

It’s important to know how to down slow, especially during the hot summer months.

Slowing down in the midst of summer is a classic Ayurvedic guideline. Much of this stems from living in sync with your constitute, also known as, your Dosha. Dosha is a central term in Ayurvedic medicine originating from Sanskrit. Dosha(s) are your health types used to specify how one should eat, sleep and exercise for a balanced mind, heart and lifestyle.

Ayurvedic Medicine, a holistic approach to wellness, is an ancient health science built around the five elements:

Air

Fire

Water

Earth

Space

The unique combination of these elements come together to make up the doshas:

Vata

Pitta

Kapha

Each dosha has a number of corresponding qualities that are expressed in the physical, emotional, and mental aspects of one’s being. All of us have some aspects of each dosha, but one or two doshas tend to dominate, informing everything from our digestion, mental health, to emotions.
