What is Gratitude?
Gratitude is the quality of being thankful and having the readiness to show appreciation for things in your life. Gratitude can improve your health and relationships when practiced over time.
Gratitude is a way for people to appreciate what they have instead of always reaching for something new in the hopes it will make them happier, or thinking they can't feel satisfied until every physical and material need is met. Gratitude helps people refocus on what they have instead of what they lack. And, although it may feel contrived at first, this mental state grows stronger with use and practice. [1]
Two psychologists researched gratitude and found that individuals who practiced gratitude were more optimistic and felt better about their lives. [1]
Here are some ways to increase life satisfaction:
Write out gratitude letters
Help someone in need
Check-in on loved ones
Practice mindfulness
Count your blessings
Express thank you more often
Exchange expectations for appreciation
Learn meditation
